FINE ART HOUNDS
I was not thinking of dogs when I started this project .
I had been researching techniques that were used to create Hollywood studio actor’s head shots from the golden age of cinema, between the mid 1930s to the mid 1950s. I’d always like these pictures . I come from an acting background and was also getting bored with seeing digital headshots. While digital photography is an incredible development and because we now all have great quality digital camera in our pockets, standout images are getting harder to find amongst the billions that are posted online . Digital portrait photography can unfortunately wind up looking pretty samey - far less interesting than the film headshots of actors that inspired me when I started out four decades ago . While I was mulling over the signature styles of the various Hollywood studios I came across some stunning shots of Lassie, perhaps the most famous Hollywood dog of all.
These golden age of cinema photos are the inspiration for Fine Art Hounds. See gallery
